Divisions

Picture of Simulation

AFAMS is organized into three divisions:

  •  eXploration Division (MSX)
  • Requirements Division (MSR)
  • Workforce Development Division (MSD)

eXploration Division

The aim of the eXploration division is to explore transformative and disruptive technology to gain insight to effectively collaborate with others to Drive Innovation and adoption. The division collaborates and liaises with relevant partner organizations to conduct risk reduction of technology and standards and allow the Air Force to bridge the training and readiness gap between now and when the joint simulation environment (JSE) comes online for routine training use.

The division drives innovation in multiple focus areas:

- M&S Government Reference Architecture (GRA) for Synthetic Environments, which provides the constraints and guidelines focused on the future.

- Zero Trust Data Segmentation, which is imperative to achieve multi-level security (MLS).

- M&S Standards Efforts, which provides a common set of guidelines and specifications ensuring compatibility and interoperability.

- Immersive Technology Planning Guide, which is an application that identifies current augmented, virtual, and mixed reality (AR/VR/MR) components - Immersive Technology Planning Application Link: App

- Simulator, Lightweight Exploration Device (SLED), which is an immersive training platform to test out future concepts to apply to operational training systems.

- Artificial Intelligence (AI), which refers to simulation used to imitate the intellectual behaviors

Requirements Division

The Requirements Division supports the Air Force operational training enterprise by addressing requirements for both current and future Air Force operational training infrastructures.

The Requirements Division leads the Air Force Operational Training Infrastructure Line of Effort (LoE) for Joint Interoperability/interagency as well as assesses emerging capabilities within Joint Forces, Industry, and Academia.

As the requirements lead for the Command and Control Synthetic Environment and the Simulator Common Architecture Requirements & Standards efforts the Requirements Division collaborates with Headquarters Air Force and MAJCOMs to identify, prioritize, track, and advocate for enterprise level operational training requirements (e.g., cross-domain training architecture and future constructive training environments).

Additionally, the Requirements Division executes the Risk Management Framework Security effort on behalf of HAF/A3T.

Workforce Development Division

The Mission Support division supports Operational Training Infrastructure’s (OTI) strategic and tactical approaches to advocate the advancement of future and current Air Force enterprise training.

As the Executive Agent for Human Capital, the Mission Support division maintains the effectiveness, productivity, and skill sets of our forces for the long-term and short-term readiness of the Air Force and Joint Forces.

Additionally, the Mission Support division leads the Air Force OTI modeling and simulation knowledge management efforts to enable collaboration, reusability, and interoperability.
